“Eyjafjallajökull. Unpronounceable and unforgettable to many of us – the volcanic ash cloud in Iceland in 2010 caused massive flight cancellations. I received a call from a desperate couple whose honeymoon trip was on the edge. Their flight from Frankfurt to Miami got cancelled; the chances for an alternative flight – gloomy. I really wanted to help the two love birds, but how? I realised the only option was to book them on two separate flights! I spotted one seat with Swiss Airlines and booked it for the husband. I re-booked his wife on United Airlines with a stop in New York. Her husband would arrive one hour earlier – just enough time for him to arrange a bouquet of flowers! Their reaction was priceless: They started to cry with tears of joy, and I have to admit I also shed a tear…. All’s well that ends well!”
